It was my grandson’s First Birthday Party today…he was a little mystified by the cake but delighted by all the attention.
It was a long, sad day today. After four hours at the animal hospital and a battery of tests, the vet told me what I feared, that it is time to put down my 14-year-old whippet. (He was diagnosed with prostate cancer a year ago January, and has outlived his prognosis by 18 months.) They sent me home with a few days worth of painkillers and a heavy heart. While terribly sad, my photo today reveals that perhaps my sweet Riley is more ready to let go than I am.
After showing a friend this photo of my new grandson’s little foot, she sent me this wonderful passage from the Chinese tradition of reading the lines of the foot:
“When the bottom of either of your feet has “crossed” lines, it is an auspicious sign as it suggests you have the luck to hold leadership positions and enjoy good fortune. Indeed all kinds of lines appearing at the bottom of your feet always suggest that you will forever have food and prosperity. There is no shortage of anything in your life. And if you are lucky enough to have three distinct lines at the bottom of any one of your feet, it means you will enjoy prosperity, wealth and longevity.”
