Today my workshop class went to the Olson House in Cushing, Maine, where Andrew Wyeth painted prolifically, most notably the Christina series and the iconic “Christina’s World.” That bit of art history aside, it was simply an inspiring and delightful place to photograph.
The house is maintained in a state of half-decay; every room has just one or two pieces of furniture, but most wonderful of all is that the light is other-worldly. The windows are so large and the rooms so empty that the light reflects off the floors and sends shadows upwards. It wasn’t until I opened my digital files that I noticed that the ceilings were green because the color from the trees and grass outside was being bounced onto the ceilings.
This lone chair was one of my many favorites from this very gratifying day behind the camera.
