My daughter Lael graduated from Greenwich Country Day School this morning, a school that she has loved–and thrived at–for the past 12 years. Not only was she elected to be one of the two students to give a commencement address, she received the class fellowship award and earned both high academic and high effort marks for the year. She amazed everyone with her charming and poised speech; her best friend’s father came up to me afterward and said that if he didn’t know Lael as well as he did, he would NEVER have believed that a 15-year old could have written that speech. To say we were bursting with pride is an understatement.
I love this picture because it sums up her joyful spirit; her classmates all looking a bit serious and bored, but my Lael finding something delightfully funny amidst all the seriousness and pomp.
