Another day of rain and wind, but my daughter and I went for a walk in Nantucket Town regardless. I found this charming cottage down by the wharf. Most houses in Nantucket are named by their owners, and I figured this little cottage was no different; it wasn’t until I got home and was reading a history of Nantucket that I learned that this little place is in fact a club, and a rather illustrious one at that. It has counted among its members a U.S. President, a U.S. Supreme Court justice, ambassadors, admirals, generals, artists, writers, pilots, clamdiggers, scallopers, sailors, craftspeople, scientists, government officials, elected leaders, and captains of industry. Much to my delight, the club motto is “No Reserved Seats for the Mighty.”
