Day 93 of my photo-a-day project and I am finally posting a photo of our dog Riley, a nine-year-old Whippet who is my constant companion. There is a reason Riley has not made an appearance here thus far: my first photography teacher (an inspiring and charming man who taught night school at SUNY Purchase and whose name I have completely forgotten) absolutely FORBADE any of us to offer up photos of our pets for critique. He simply had no time for them–obviously he had seen far too many cat and dog photos in his years as a photography teacher to be able to tolerate even one more. So while I have forgotten my instructor’s name, I have not forgotten his advice.
But today, in the woods on our morning walk, I shooed the dog to the side of an interesting weedy path that I was bent on photographing and saw in Riley’s patient demeanor a better photograph than any woodland scene could offer.
Plus, I think he was tracking a squirrel.
